Artistic Practice
« Repair does not mean erasing loss,
but giving it a place within the living. »
Karine N'guyen Van Tham
My artistic practice unfolds at the threshold of textile, sculpture, drawing and landscape. It is rooted in a phenomenological approach in which fabric is a living memory and a receptacle for the invisible. My work is not about producing objects, but about exhuming presences buried within the folds of matter.
From this original threshold - the memory of a suspended jacket whose absence turned it into a relic - emerged a reflection on the textile object as a revealer of sedimented memories.
Initiated through an exploration of the personal and familial unconscious, my practice first examined the sentimental value of the object and its capacity for resilience, in dialogue with Louise Bourgeois. This research expanded into a monumental and organic dimension during my residency at Palazzo Vendramin Grimani in 2024, where the mattresses of the triptych À corps ouvert became exposed bodies, echoing the sculptural force of Magdalena Abakanowicz.
Grounded in this long-term practice, my approach - informed by the work of C. G. Jung - gradually opened towards the dynamics of the collective unconscious and the symbolic and archetypal figures that emerge through the creative process.
In 2020, an inner territory imposed itself within my practice. Historical and anthropological research undertaken afterwards led me to identify it as 12th-century Mongolia. Having become an inner foundation, this territory is approached as an intimate mythology and a psychic territory.
Between the sacred verticality of sky and earth, funerary rites that restore an architecture of death within the living, and the archetypal figure of the wild child, this corpus infuses my work with its telluric force. This grounding gradually enabled me, from 2026 onwards, to fully approach the history of slavery, which has been present in my practice since 2019.
Exhumation then becomes a working protocol: the hand digs, and textile matter becomes an instrument of secular care. I weave, dye with plants, assemble, sew, pierce, embroider and transform surfaces, allowing gestures and alterations to inscribe their own history and bring forth presences contained within absence.
This textile work finds its indispensable counterpart in drawing. Faced with a block in my dominant right hand, using my left hand opened an unexpected passage. Through this drawing protocol in an altered state of consciousness, I bring forth fragments of memory, symbols and archetypes. This graphic gesture allows me to receive, let speak and question what emerges.
Each experience leaves a trace in my trance notebooks. Alongside the drawing itself, I record the protocol, the conditions of entering and leaving the trance state, the visions, sensations and questions that arose during the experience. These notebooks accompany the work as a memory of its process and allow the investigation to continue through historical and archaeological research.
If drawing digs and reveals, textile gives it its definitive form. The final work does not seek to reveal everything about its genesis: it stands as an offering of a space for contemplation, and an invitation for the viewer to move through these suspended memories in turn.

Research Note and Anthropological Correlation - Mongolian Corpus: La Dent-Cosmos - Excerpt
The Body–Cosmos Homology (Teeth–Stars)
The perceived correspondence between teeth and stars is part of the concept of the human microcosm reflecting the celestial macrocosm (M. Eliade). The body is a miniature universe in which the teeth embody the radiance and fixity of the stars.
The Black Tooth and the Paternal Lineage
In Central Asia, bone and teeth symbolise the “bone principle” inherited through the paternal lineage (R. Hamayon, La chasse à l’âme). In my work, the motif of the black or altered tooth emerges as the embodiment of a memory wound or a crisis within the lineage. It materialises the need for a ritual of repair directed towards the ancestral bone structure.
The White Bone and the Teeth of the Chiefs
On the steppe, the belief in the sacredness of the chiefs’ lineage is connected to the concept of the “White Bone” (Chagaan Yas): the ruler, chosen by Heaven, possesses a sacred bone structure - and, by extension, sacred teeth - as a guarantee of purity and spiritual power. The exposure of bones and skulls to the rays of the sun, particularly on Ovoo, is part of these solar cults of regeneration and fertility of the earth.
The Linguistic Triptych
The wordplay received during trance - l’ardent / l’argent / l’art-dent - echoes, through poetic analogy, the mechanisms of the “language of the spirits” analysed by C. Stépanoff.

À mon frère

" Mon ami,
Mon frère,
Toi et moi,
C’était Anda
Et sonna le glas,
Dans les cieux et l’au delà.
Sous le grand ciel Tengri,
Ce n’est qu’un court adieu, mon ami.
[...]
J’irai seul,
J’attendrai mon dernier linceul.
Et j’aurai, mon frère,
Une dernière pensée,
Avant de te retrouver.
Parce que mon frère,
Anda, lui, ne meurt jamais. "

Je me suis réveillé,
Maintenant, je me souviens,
Et laisserai mes contemporains me juger,

Je me dévoilerais.
